Myocardial scintigraphy - what is it?
Approximately 40% of deaths in Germany each year are caused by cardiovascular diseases. The main cause of death is heart attack, linked to an acute narrowing of one or more coronary vessels, which then results in the death of parts of the heart muscle.
Plenty of procedures, one question: What do you really need?
Heart CT scans and cardiac catheterisation exclusively clarify the patency of diseased coronary vessels, but do not provide information about the flow of blood through the affected heart muscle and, consequently, its function.
Myocardial scintigraphy is an extremely reliable and non-invasive procedure to assess the flow of blood through the heart muscle. This is compared at rest and during exertion, subsequently allowing physicians to determine the patency of the vessels, disruptions to blood supply and their severity. This means new symptoms such as shortness of breath, as well as inconclusive results of an stress ECG test, silent heart attacks and the extent of heart attacks including the condition of vital tissues on the periphery can be determined, as well as the measurement of results after balloon angioplasty or stent treatment.
This makes it an extremely valuable procedure for high-risk patients with diabetes mellitus or hypertension, and for smokers.

Thyroid diagnostics
Every third resident of Munich under the age of 45 and every second resident over the age of 45 suffers from thyroid disease (often undiagnosed). Leading causes include the formation of nodules in the thyroid gland or autoimmune diseases, which can lead to an overactive or underactive thyroid. These kind of nodules in the thyroid require further clarification with an ultrasound performed by an experienced doctor and, if necessary, subsequent scintigraphy. The specific goal of further diagnostics of thyroid nodules is to exclude thyroid cancer in these nodules, which should be immediately surgically removed. Dr Wagenmann and his nuclear medicine team possess all the skills to reliably assess these thyroid nodules, to differentiate benign nodules from malignant ones, and to confidently diagnose inflammation and then quickly arrange the necessary treatment within their expert network.
